Stretching and Mobilisation
Stretching can be used to improve the range of a tight or damaged muscle, to prevent contracture of a muscle as it heals, or to promote general flexibilty.Stretching:
- Improves range of joint movement.
- Lengthens muscles.
- Mobilises nerves and tendons within their sheath.
- Maximises athleticism and reduces risk of injury.
- Improves proprioception. i.e. awareness of the position of its limbs in relation to its body which improves balance and co-ordination.
- Improves relaxation.
