Stretching and Mobilisation

Stretching can be used to improve the range of a tight or damaged muscle, to prevent contracture of a muscle as it heals, or to promote general flexibilty.

Stretching:
  • Improves range of joint movement.
  • Lengthens muscles.
  • Mobilises nerves and tendons within their sheath.
  • Maximises athleticism and reduces risk of injury.
  • Improves proprioception. i.e. awareness of the position of its limbs in relation to its body which improves balance and co-ordination.
  • Improves relaxation.
